Run Up to Ganesh Festivities Gathers Momentum
Hyderabad:With just three weeks remaining, Hyderabad is abuzz with preparations for Ganesh Chaturthi. Vendors have begun stocking a variety of Lord Ganesha idols, most of them made of plaster of Paris (PoP).
Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Mukesh, a vendor in Himayatnagar said “We sell idols ranging from three feet to 12 feet. Most of them come from Maharashtra’s Solapur. The momentum is picking up as people are coming in and pre-booking their idols. Once they set up their pandals, they will take the idol.”
“We are looking for an eight-foot idol for our colony. The idols from Solapur have a distinctive style, and they carry an aura,,” said Sai Dhruv from Ahmednagar in Banjara Hills.
Works have begun on putting up tents that will house these idols, many sponsored by local communities, businesses and even individuals.
“Every year we set up the Ganesh idol in our community. This time we are planning on installing a 10-foot idol. We are already collecting donations from people. We are in the process of setting up tents”, said Rakesh Mudhiraj from Amberpet.
