Samyukta Kisan Morcha to Hold Dharna on Dec 4 for Tenant Farmers
HYDERABAD: The Samyukta Kisan Morcha has said it will hold a dharna seeking justice for tenant farmers on December 4, at Dharna Chowk near Indira Park here. They sought issuance of loan eligibility cards by the implementation of Licensed Cultivators Act 2011.
The tenant farmers will narrate their plight before a jury including Prof. G. Haragopal, which will deliver its verdict. It will be followed by the voicing of demands by all the leaders of farmer unions and agricultural
worker unions.
Addressing the media at the Basheerbagh Press Club, the morcha leaders said that the Congress had promised justice for tenant farmers during the Assembly election campaign last year.
“We are questioning the Chief Minister and the ministers who are organising the Rythu Panduga in Palamuru– why are tenant farmers not a part of the farmer festival? The real farmer festival will happen only when more than 22 lakh tenant farmers are identified and included in government schemes,” the morcha leaders said.
They said that 75 percent of the Telangana farmer suicides are tenant farmers, and only by identifying tenant farmers and providing them full support can we achieve a Telangana free of farmer suicides.
They reminded that RTI responses on the public consultations held by the cabinet sub-committee on Rythu Bharosa obtained by Rythu Swarajya Vedika had shown that a large number of farmers had opined that tenant farmers need support.
