Allu Arjun granted regular bail

Hyderabad: Actor Allu Arjun was on Friday granted regular bail by the Nampally court in connection with the Sandhya theatre stampede case of December 4. He was asked to furnish two sureties of Rs 50,000.

The court also directed him to appear before the Chikkadpally police every Sunday as part of the bail condition.

The actor, who was granted interim bail for a period of four weeks by the Telangana High Court on December 13, had filed a regular bail petition in the Nampally court. After hearing the arguments from both parties on December 27, the II Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge had reserved the orders for January 3.

Arjun’s counsel argued that his client had no direct involvement in the stampede and mentioned that charges stated in the FIR against him were baseless. The prosecution, however, claimed that as a high-profile figure, the actor should have been more cautious about the risks during such large gatherings.

A stampede occurred on December 4 during the special screening of ‘Pushpa-2’ at Sandhya theatre, that resulted in the death of 39-yar-old M. Revathi and critical injuries to her son Sri Tej who is still in hospital.

The actor was arrested on December 13 and released on interim bail a day later after the High Court granted him four weeks of interim bail.
