Sanitation Staff of GHMC Santoshnagar Circle Yet to Get October Pay

Hyderabad: Sanitation workers in GHMC Santoshnagar circle have not been paid their October salary paid. While the sanitation staff of other circles received their salaries in the same month as a Diwali gesture, the 430 employees in the Santoshnagar circle were not paid, apparently because of an error in the corporation’s accounts department.

The circle covers IS Sadan, Champapet, Edibazaar, Kurmaguda, Talabkatta and Gowlipura.

Generally the salaries of the sanitation staff are credited by the ninth of every month but this month they have not received salaries yet.

"They are suffering due to the mistake of senior officials," said Greater Hyderabad Municipal Employees Union (GHMEU) president U. Gopal.

Alwar Shiva Kumar, president of the TS MCH Employees and Workers Union, stated that the issue had been taken to the attention of the Charminar zonal commissioner T. Venkanna but there had been no response. Many of the affected sanitation workers are women, who are struggling with expenses, as a result of the delay.

One of them, G. Padma, said that she could not pay her rent.

A GHMC official told Deccan Chronicle that the delay was caused by a technical problem, and the salary file had been resubmitted to the office. The official said that efforts were being made to resolve the issue promptly.
