Sankranti Vacationers Told To Inform Cops

Hyderabad: In view of the upcoming Sankranti, Cyberabad police on Wednesday asked citizens to inform local police stations about their departure and arrival plans if they need to lock their housesand go to their hometowns.

Police commissioner Avinash Mohanti said citizens should install locks with a central locking system for added security. People should arrange a security alarm system with motion sensors to prevent unavoidable incidents and if they find any suspicious individuals they should report immediately to the local police station or call 100, he said.

The commissioner further asked citizens to keep their two-wheelers inside their compound walls and ensure they are locked, and if possible, secure them with wheel chains and hire trusted watchmen or security guards to watch their properties.

The city police chief also asked people to install CCTV cameras at entry and exit points connecting to their houses and monitor them online to ensure that the DVR is stored in a secure location.

People were told to avoid leaving garbage, milk packets or newspapers outside their houses as this may indicate their absence to criminals, he said, adding they should cover their locked doors with curtains to prevent them from being visible to strangers.

Citizens were asked to keep lights on inside and outside their homes to create an impression of occupancy. Inform trusted neighbors about their absence and ask them to look after their home, Mohanty said.

Avoid leaving keys at easily accessible places such as shoe racks, under pillows, above cupboards, or in dressing table drawers, the commissioner further said.

Do not share your travel plans with anyone except trusted individuals and avoid sharing travel details on social media platforms like WhatsApp, Instagram or Facebook, he stated.

By following these guidelines, you can ensure the safety of your properties during festival vacation, he further added.
