Saroornagar Lake Overflows onto Nearby Roads, Colonies

Hyderabad: Unrelenting rain in Hyderabad caused Saroornagar Lake to overflow on Sunday, with the excess water spilling onto nearby streets and colonies.

The lake, once a serene spot in the city, has become a source of distress due to encroachments on its full tank level and buffer zones.

Several houses and small businesses have sprung up in areas that were originally part of the lake’s land. These illegal encroachments have narrowed the spread of water, resulting in 'excess' water making its way onto roads and homes.

“I’ve been living here for five years, and every time it rains, the water starts flowing out of the lake,” said S. Ramesh, a local resident. He further said, “I don’t know whether the building is on lake land or not, but last year water did come into the ground floor of our house. After the rain stopped, we scooped out the water with buckets.”

“Our shop is just a few metres from the lake. We’re already seeing water pooling outside, and if this continues, we’ll close the shop temporarily,” said Amina Begum, who runs a small grocery store.
