SCCL Chairman Balram stresses importance of English for tribal students
The training programme, held from January 3 to February 2 and sponsored by Governor Jishnu Dev Varma, aimed to bridge linguistic gaps and improve students’ communication skills

Hyderabad: English proficiency is crucial for students from marginalised backgrounds to compete in academics and the job market, said N. Balram, chairman and managing director of Singareni Collieries Company Ltd (SCCL), at the valedictory session of a month-long English training programme at Osmania University’s English Language Teaching Centre (ELTC).
Addressing tribal students from government degree colleges from across Telangana, Balram credited his own success to strong mentorship and education. Announcing support for libraries in rural tribal areas and an English Language Lab, he stressed the need for better learning resources in remote regions.
The training programme, held from January 3 to February 2 and sponsored by Governor Jishnu Dev Varma, aimed to bridge linguistic gaps and improve students’ communication skills. Over 90 intensive sessions were conducted by 38 faculty members from institutions like Hyderabad Central University (HCU), NIT Warangal, Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU), and Osmania University, along with professionals from Cognizant, Google, and Genpact.
At the closing event, Prof. B. Vijaya, Director of ELTC, presided alongside OU Registrar Prof. G. Naresh Reddy, and Principal of Arts College Prof. C. Kaseem, among others.
