Secunderabad Cantonment Board Cracks Down on Unauthorized Hoardings
Hyderabad: The Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) in Saturday intensified efforts to dismantle rooftop hoardings, in view of safety concerns and urban aesthetics.
The decision to prohibit rooftop hoardings was first introduced in 2023, following growing apprehensions about the risks they pose, particularly during severe weather conditions. The board said the move aligned with the regulations enforced by the GHMC.
Despite initial notices to property owners and multiple deadlines, compliance remained low, forcing the SCB to extend timelines and renew its campaign. Legal challenges from property owners temporarily slowed the process, but the Telangana High Court upheld the board’s authority.
Back then, over 160 property owners were issued notices, yet the response was inadequate, prompting the SCB to engage specialised agencies for the dismantling process.
While some expressed concerns over revenue loss from advertising, public sentiment largely favoured the SCB’s initiative, recognising its importance in maintaining safety and regulating urban development.
The board has warned of penalties under the Cantonments Act, 2006, for non-compliance, urging property owners to cooperate fully. Residents have been asked to report unauthorised hoardings or seek further information through the SCB’s official channels.
