HYDERABAD: A 21-year-old security guard was arrested for alleged rape for misbehaving with a nine-year-old girl who was alone at her home in Kokapet, Narsingi police said. Sources alleged that the guard had flashed at the girl.

After her parent’s returned, the girl informed them of what happened and the parents lodged a complaint with the police. Later, the accused, hailing from Assam, was arrested.

Rajendranagar DCP Ch Srinivas said, “The girl was not raped, but under the new laws the sections dealing with rape were applied. He misbehaved with her.”

Human trafficking racket busted at Kondapur, 17 women rescued

HYDERABAD: The Gachibowli police and the Anti-Human Trafficking team busted a human trafficking racket in Kondapur and rescued 17 women belonging to different nationalities, 14 of them from Kenya, two from Uganda and one from Tanzania. The women were sent to a rescue home after receiving an order from the court.

Police identified the accused as Shiva Kumar, who was running the racked from his apartment in Kondapur. Police said Kumar was connected to foreign traffickers, through whom he got the victims to the city, He was uploading profiles of these victims on a website.

The accused, along with two other customers, was arrested. Four mobile phones through which they were running this business, Rs 20,000 net cash and other paraphernalia were seized. A court sent Shiva to judicial remand.


Man arrested for killing mother over property dispute

HYDERABAD: A man was arrested for allegedly killing his 64-year-old mother reportedly as she refused to sell their house and give him money, Jeedimetla police said on Thursday.

Jeedimetla circle inspector G. Mallesh identified the deceased as Jayamma, 64, of SC Colony, Quthbullapur; and the accused as Venu Kumar, who was known to be addicted to alcohol. The inspector said Jayamma’s refusal to sell the house had resulted in several quarrels between them, oftentimes when Venu Kumar was drunk.

After smothering his mother and hitting her on her head with a rod at about 7 pm on Wednesday, Venu Kumar fled from the spot. Locals called the police who registered a case and began investigations. They later tracked down Venu Kumar and arrested him.

Youth ends life while on video call with family

HYDERABAD: A 24-year-old died by suicide, reportedly while on a video-call with his family from the HMT forest, Jeedimetla police said. His family immediately informed the police, who went to the spot but found the victim, Jagadish of Shapur, dead, with his two-wheeler beside him.

Jagadish was reportedly working as a credit card money recovery agent. Jeedimetla circle inspector G. Mallesh said personal financial woes appeared to have triggered the suicide.

Police booked a case and shifted Jagadish’s body to the Gandhi Hospital mortuary.

Central Bank manager sentenced to 2-year RI for causing loss to bank

Hyderabad: The special judge for CBI cases here on Thursday sentenced K. Raja Rao, then manager of the Bolaram branch of the Central Bank of India and two others for causing loss to the bank.

The court sentenced Raja Rao to two years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 65,000 and private persons, D. Sanjeeva Reddy and K. Ramana Reddy, to one year’s rigorous imprisonment along with fine of `15,000 each.

According to the complaint that the CBI registered on July 30, 2004, Raja Rao had conspired with an accused proprietor (since expired) of a private firm to cheat the bank. The accused had allegedly sanctioned/availed housing loans of Rs 1.29 crore in the names of 70 borrowers without proper identification, using false reports and forging the signatures. A chargesheet was filed on March 31, 2006.
