Seethakka sees Centre's ploy to let corporates loot forests

Nalgonda: Strongly criticising the BJP-led Union government, panchayat raj and rural development minister Danasari Anasuya (Seethakka) on Friday alleged that, despite its mandate to protect forests, the Centre has permitted corporate entities to devastate forest regions for business operations.

Addressing a training programme for tribal and adivasi representatives at Hill Colony in Nagarjunasagar, she claimed the Centre gave Dhani Group a free hand to destroy forests for mining ventures. Terming it a denial of legitimate rights for tribal and adivasi communities residing in forest areas, she accused the Union government of erasing their roots. “It’s nothing short of undermining the existence of our people,” she said. She added that action was necessary.
The minister further emphasised creating awareness from hamlet level to state level about the rights of these communities. She insisted tribal and adivasi youth be encouraged to pursue higher education, which she said would inevitably spur their social and economic progress. Such measures, she noted, preserve identity.
She also mentioned the state government was expediting steps to hold elections for local bodies soon. Sarpanchs, ZPTCs, MPPs, and MPTCs, she opined, play crucial roles in propelling development across rural landscapes, ensuring grassroots governance and better administration overall.
TRICAR chairman Tejavath Bellaiah Naik and District Congress Committee president Shanker Naik also briefly attended the session.
