Seethakka Visits Villages, Assures All Help to People
Hyderabad: Heavy rain and flooding have affected road connectivity to 197 villages with 117 panchayat raj roads, and 80 managed by the roads and buildings department needing repairs which are expected to cost around Rs 170 crore, minister Danasari Anasuya Seethakka said on Monday.
She announced that the government had released Rs 5 crore as immediate aid to families that have been severely affected by the floods.
Seethakka, on Monday, toured Purushottamgudem, Sitaram thanda, Tallapusapalli, Kesamudram, Inugurti, Nellikuduru and Ravirala in Mahbubabad district for an on-the-spot assessment of the rain and flood impact. She was accompanied by local MLA Dr Murali Nayak, MP Balram Naik, and officials.
The minister, who has been camping in Mahbubabad district and overseeing relief and rescue operations, also said that Mission Bhagiratha drinking water supply lines were damaged due to the floods and directed the contracting agencies to take up the repairs immediately.
She said that power supply interruptions caused by the rain had impacted drinking water supply to 5,700 villages. Supply has been restored to 2,000 villages. In other places, officials were providing drinking water by using panchayat raj bore wells.
Seethakka instructed officials to keep focus on public health and ensure sanitation to prevent the spread of diseases in the flood-hit villages. She said officials should be available to receive calls from people and respond quickly.
