Sewer overflow at Lakdikapul resolved
HMWS&SB Clears Blockages, Warns Against Illegal Dumping

Officials from the HMWS&SB's O&M Division No. 4 in Red Hills said they had resolved a persistent sewer overflow issue in Lakdikapul, clearing silt and debris clogging the sewer pipes and restoring smooth wastewater flow. During the operation, workers found plastic waste, water bottles, covers and even mattresses dumped into manholes.
Water board officials attributed the recurring issue to public negligence and warned that strict action would be taken against those caught dumping waste into manholes. They pointed to hotels, offices, bakeries, food courts and commercial buildings as major contributors. Many of these establishments have illegally connected their sewage lines to the city’s main network without installing proper silt chambers, leading to blockages from food waste and debris.
As part of an ongoing 180-day special drive, the water board has so far removed a significant amount of waste from sewer pipelines and manholes, reducing daily sewage complaints by 30 per cent.
