Sexual Assault on LKG Girl Triggers Tension in Kamareddy
KAMAREDDY: Tension prevailed in Kamareddy on Tuesday as student unions and parents staged protest in front of a school for alleged sexual assault on a six-year-old girl by the school’s physical education teacher Nagaraju.
Police resorted to caning to disperse the agitators. The protestors also pelted stones at police resulting in injuries to circle inspector Chandrasekhar Reddy, two sub-inspectors and other personnel.
Kamareddy district additional collector Srinivas Reddy and SP Ch. Sindhu Sharma visited the spot and persuaded the protestors after assuring that action would be initiated against the accused.
Nagaraju allegedly sexually assaulted the student on Monday. The incident came to light on Tuesday as the parents of the victim and student union leaders staged protests demanding stringent action against the accused.
Other parents joined the protest and raised slogans against the school management. In view of the tense situation, students in the classrooms came out of the school. Additional SP Narasimha Reddy and police forces tried to convince the agitators, but in vain.
To disperse the agitators police resorted to lathi charge and the protestors pelted stones at them.
Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Kamareddy SP Ch Sindu Sharma said the accused was arrested and sent to remand. The victim was sent for medical examination and a case under the Pocso Act was registered against the accused.
