Share drug suppliers information to initiate stern action: TGANB

Hyderabad: Telangana Anti-Narcotics Bureau (TGANB) on Wednesday requested the people in the State to share information related to drug manufactures’, suppliers, transporters, receivers, peddlers and consumers to its toll-free number 1908 to initiate stern action against them.

To deal with drug menace comprehensively, the efforts of police and other law enforcing agencies were alone not sufficient but the support of other stakeholders – youth, students, all government and private educational institutions from school to university level, NGOs, intellectuals, parents, government staff and software companies was essential, TGANB said.

It also analysed the route cause for the low conviction rate in NDPS cases as reported in the past (Prohibition & Excise Dept: four per cent and Police: 11 per cent only). To increase the conviction rate, training programmes are being conducted regularly to the investigation officers (IOs) in the Police and Prohibition & Excise departments.

TGANB Director Sandeep Shandilya interacted with participants at an awareness programme organized at Dr. MCRHRDI in Jubilee Hills on Wednesday.

Asmany as 940 members from various departments - Education, Medical & Health, Revenue, NCC and NSS among other wings are being imparted training on “Drug Abuse in Youth, Intervention Strategies for Prevention, Awareness & Rehabilitation” during the programme.

In continuation again the TGANB has designed a massive awareness programme wherein 1000 members from corporate high schools, universities, IT companies, NCC and NSS, etc., are being imparted training from November 26 to 29.

So far, the TGANB has conducted 148 awareness programs covering 57,129 students and also 590 awareness programs were conducted by the law and order police covering 68,120 students, the TGANB added.
