SHGs to Be Roped in for School Management
Adilabad: Women self-help groups (WSHGs) will play a major role in the management of government schools from the next academic year starting in June. This is part of the policy to involve SHGs as the government thinks the local organisations can better manage schools and take care of students’ welfare and ensure quality education.
Mahila Samakhya presidents in rural areas and Pattana Samakhya presidents in urban areas will head the Amma Adarsha Patashala Committees (AAPCs) that will supervise the school work. A bank account will be opened in the school committee's name.
The committees will look after construction of compound walls, gardening and maintenance of toilets. They will monitor supply of electricity, drinking water, and safety and security of girl students and quality of mid-day meals and students’ attendance. They will also ensure all children of school-going age are admitted to government schools and school funds properly used.
Basic amenities are being created in 672 government schools under the supervision of the Amma Adarsha Patashala Committees in Nirmal district.
Nirmal collector Ashish Sangwan said the committees have taken steps to complete new works and repairs in government schools by June 5, adding that uniforms will be distributed to students at the time of reopening of schools.
Recently, the collector had inspected works at a government school in Kondapur in Nirmal rural mandal and insisted on quality of work. He asked the staff to send him reports, including photographs of works, both before and after completion. He asked school in-charges to take the help of local SHGs in construction and repair works in schools.
