ACP booked for creating stir at drunk and driving check

Hyderabad: City police booked Siddipet ACP, traffic, Suman Kumar for creating a stir in SR Nagar late on Wednesday night. Kumar, who was reportedly drunk, strongly objected a traffic sub-inspector for stopping his friend’s car and conducting a drunk driving check near the SR Nagar Metro Rail station.

The issue started after the traffic police tested Kumar’s friend Jaipal Reddy, who was driving the car. Reddy was found to have a blood alcohol content of 39 mg/100 ml of blood, as against the permissible limit of 30. On seeing this, SR Nagar sub-inspector G. Kantha Rao proceeded to take further action. At this, Kumar, who was sitting beside Jaipal Reddy, came out of the vehicle and took strong objection.

As the ACP began arguing with the sub-inspector, Kantha Rao alerted the police control room.

Based on a complaint lodged by Kantha Rao, the Madhuranagar police booked a case against Kumar for obstructing a public servant and causing disappearance of evidence as well as under the Motor Vehicle (MV) Act.

SR Nagar traffic police seized Jaipal Reddy’s car and released it after collecting the documents. Madhuranagar law and order police started a probe on ACP Kumar’s role based on a video that captured the episode.
