Hyderabad: The special investigation team (SIT) formed by the state government to probe online betting app cases convened its first meeting on Thursday, calling all investigating officers (IOs) handling these cases to bring case files for review and further action.
The meeting, led by Director General, CID, Shikha Goel, was attended by SIT members including IGP M. Ramesh Reddy, SPs Ch. Sindhu Sharma (intelligence) K. Venkata Lakshmi (EOW, CID), S. Chandrakanth, additional SP and M. Shanker, DSP (EOW, CID).
"It was decided to call all investigating officers handling online betting cases across the state for a meeting at the state police headquarters in Hyderabad. They have been instructed to bring case files and relevant information in the prescribed format. The SIT will review investigations, develop standard operating procedures, and guide officers on all aspects of the probe," said Shikha Goel.
The SIT will also engage with other stakeholder agencies and conduct a comprehensive, time-bound investigation into assigned or transferred cases. Additionally, it will examine the online betting ecosystem to identify enablers and recommend regulatory measures to curb such activities.
It will assess legal provisions, propose restrictions to prevent the organisation, promotion and advertising of online betting and gaming and suggest reforms in the public interest. Government departments and agencies have been requested to extend full cooperation. The SIT will submit its final report to the state government through the Director General of Police within 90 days.
