Harish Rao Slams Congress for Taking Credit on Sitarama Project
Hyderabad: BRS senior leader T. Harish Rao claimed that the Congress government was adopting a “parasitic approach” in claiming credit for inaugurating the Sitarama lift irrigation scheme, which was planned and executed by the previous BRS government led by former chief minister K. Chandrashekar Rao.
Addressing a press conference, Harish Rao, a former irrigation minister, said the project’s inauguration was a memorable occasion for the BRS and the people of Khammam and that the party would celebrate the event. The Congress government had announced that Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy will formally inaugurate the project on August 15.
Harish Rao said 90 per cent of the project work was taken up and completed during the BRS rule; statements by Congress ministers demonstrated a desperate effort to claim credit for something that was done by the BRS government, he said.
He claimed that it had become a habit for the Congress government to take credit for initiatives taken up and completed by the BRS government. “They did the same with 30,000 jobs, and cutting ribbons for ready-to-use flyovers,” he said.
He said Chandrashekar Rao had re-engineered the previous Congress government’s plans for Rajiv and Indirasagar projects, tripled the capacity from lifting 3,000 cusecs of water to 9,000 cusecs, doubled the ayacut from 3.24 lakh acres to more than 6 lakh acres, Harish Rao added.
In addition to solving problems in Khammam district, a small reverse pumping station at Paleru to lift backwaters from Godavari that the Sitarama project will use, will ensure irrigation to Nalgonda district too.
