SLBC tunnel collapse rescue
NGRI team finds anomalies in debris, locations of missing workers may have been found

HYDERABAD: Fears that some - if not all the eight workers missing after having been caught in falling debris in the SLBC tunnel collapse – may no longer be alive gripped the rescue workers with a team of scientists from NGRI discovering five spots where ‘anomalies’ were found in their Ground Penetration Radar tests inside the tunnel, conducted over the accumulated debris.
Special Chief Secretary, disaster relief, Arvind Kumar, said at this point of time, all that can be concluded is that there are ‘anamolies’ – inconsistencies in the material properties – that have been found in the GPR survey. The scientists said that it cannot be determined from the data that was managed to record whether the anomalies are humans, or some other material which is light weight compared to the surrounding material.
Even as reports began to fly thick and fast that the locations of ‘bodies’ of the eight missing workers have been found, Nagarkurnool district Badavath Santosh dismissed all such talk saying word doing the rounds is premature. Meanwhile, SCCL chairman and managing director Balaram, who is at the site with a 250 member SCCL team of miners and rescue workers, also said nothing can be confirmed and that they have sought another report from the NGRI team, if possible, with more clarity.
However, the amount of wrecked metal of the tunnel boring machine and the debris, is reported to be interfering with the GPR test results. Balaram said it might take another day or two to determine exactly what has been found as the results so far are only indicative in terms of differences in the materials and their properties.
