SLBC tunnel collapse: SCR rushes metal cutting experts to site

According to SCR officials, the Nagarkurnool district collector had sought their help in clearing the debris, including steel and iron, which have been hindering rescue operations.

Hyderabad:Caught amid hope and despair to rescue the eight persons trapped inside the collapsed Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) tunnel near Domalapenta, where rescue operations are being taken up by teams from the state government, army, navy, rat miners and NDRF, the South Central Railway (SCR) has rushed two teams of metal cutting experts to the site.

According to SCR officials, the Nagarkurnool district collector had sought their help in clearing the debris, including steel and iron, which have been hindering rescue operations.

An official said “The first batch, led by S. Murali, IRSME divisional mechanical engineer, includes a senior section engineer, 13 welders and two technicians from Secunderabad, Lallaguda and Rayanapadu workshop, reached the site.”

The second batch of experts will join the first team and join in the operation. The SCR team has taken along a plasma cutting machine; a brocho cutting machine and consumables; one portable air compressor; six plasma cutters, one ultra-thermic cutting equipment, six oxygen cylinders, two welding machines, welding electrodes, helmets and retro reflective jackets, among other such materials that are required.
