Hyderabad: The southwest monsoon is here. And it reached Telangana in somewhat of a ‘hurry’. On Monday, according to the Indian Meteorological Department, the monsoon entered southern Telangana and covered parts of Nalgonda, Nagarkurnool, and Jogulamba-Gadwal districts.
The IMD, in its initial long-range forecast for this year’s monsoon, had pegged the tentative arrival dates for the start of the rainy season over the state between June 5 and June 10. However, the monsoon, which entered Kerala two days ahead on May 30, instead of its expected arrival over the Indian landmass on June 1, appears to be progressing ahead of schedule as of now.
According to the Telangana Planning and Development Society which monitors weather conditions across the state with an extensive network of automated observatories, the monsoon is expected to advance over the rest of Telangana in the next 4 to 5 days.
On Monday, the society said the highest rainfall of 147 mm was reported from Rajoli in Jogulamba-Gadwal district, while parts of Nalgonda district received up to 115.2 mm of rain, while one location in Nagarkurnool received 82.9 mm of rain.
The maximum temperatures fell across the state from the highest 44.5º Celsius on Sunday at Kollur in Kamareddy district to 40º C in Karkagudem in Bhadradri Kothagudem district. The lowest maximum temperature for the day, 36.2ºC, was reported from Bhadradri Kothagudem district. Temparatures across the state were lower on Monday than on Sunday.
The monsoon had entered southern Andhra Pradesh on June 2, and moved ahead covering most of the state except the north-coastal districts, which too are expected to be covered in the next day or two.
