Sports Policy to Focus on Tapping Rural Talent

Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Wednesday, decided to frame the Telangana sports policy to ensure every student from the remotest school can participate in at least one discipline. A state-level committee meeting was held to draft a strong sports policy that would encourage talented athletes to win laurels for the state and the country.

Chief Minister's sports adviser A.P. Jithender Reddy, SATS chairman K. Sivasena Reddy and Venugopala Chari, sports personalities and officials from SCCL and others expressed their views about the steps to be taken for development of sports.

Principal secretary Vani Prasad said that the suggestions received on the sports draft will be brought to the notice of the Chief Minister. "The government has allocated 10 times more funds for sports this year compared to the previous year," she said.

Many suggested setting up a sports development fund for implementation of the sports calendar along with the necessary facilities.

Another called for providing facilities in stadiums and state-level sports schools.
