Stage set for elections for 3 MLC seats

Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s campaign on the penultimate day of election campaign had intensified the political atmosphere in the state as he suggested a ‘dark deal’ between the BJP and the BRS to defeat the Congress in the MLC polls

Hyderabad: The curtains came down on Tuesday on the intense campaign for the February 27 elections to three MLC seats, which include one graduate seat and two teacher seats. Counting would take place on March 3

Though 90 candidates are in the fray, the focus was on the bitter trading of charges between the Congress and the BJP candidates in the lone graduate seat elections. The BRS has kept off the polls.

Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s campaign on the penultimate day of election campaign had intensified the political atmosphere in the state as he suggested a ‘dark deal’ between the BJP and the BRS to defeat the Congress in the MLC polls.

On the other hand, the BJP declared its candidates for all the seats even before the poll notification was issued on February 3 to consolidate its position in the state. Sensing anti-incumbency against the Congress government, the BJP wants a clean sweep in MLC polls to set tone against the Congress government ahead of the GHMC polls.

“The BRS is already a dead party. Fearing to face intellectuals and voters, the BRS clearly presumed backlash from these sections in view of its dictatorial stand on GO 317 and backed off from polls,” said BJP state unit president and Union minister G. Kishan Reddy.
