Hyderabad: The GHMC standing committee, meeting on Thursday for the last time before elections, is set to approve 15 major civic and infrastructure projects. The outgoing committee consists of eight BRS and seven AIMIM members, while the new panel, to be constituted on February 25, is expected to have seven Congress and eight AIMIM members.
One of the key proposals includes road widening near the Basavatarakam Indo American Cancer Hospital and Research Institute by acquiring 18 properties to build multi-level flyovers near KBR Park under the Hyderabad City Innovative and Transformative Infrastructure (H-CITI) project.
At Jubilee Hills Check Post Junction, 47 properties need to be acquired for road expansion and flyovers. Another major project is the development of junction and road widening near Jubilee Hills road number 36 by acquiring 40 properties.
Other key road widening proposals include the Miyapur-Hafeezpet stretch, which requires acquiring 132 properties, and Filmnagar road (from Road No. 82 to Road No. 70, Jubilee Hills), where 134 properties need to be acquired.
At Khajaguda Junction, a multi-level flyover is planned as part of a revised junction improvement project, requiring 10 properties, while the construction of another multi-level flyover at IIIT Junction under the H-CITI project has been proposed, necessitating the acquisition of 21 properties.
Other road development projects include the widening of Rangeeli Khidki Road in Yakutpura, which will require 76 properties, while the Gopanpally-Vattinagulapally road expansion will need the acquisition of four properties. Additionally, a 12-metre-wide road from Midhani bus station to Masjid-e-Ghulam Ghouse has been proposed by acquiring 38 properties. The approvals are expected to facilitate major infrastructure improvements across Hyderabad, easing traffic congestion and enhancing connectivity in key areas.
A skill development centre in Borabanda is also being proposed under a corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative to provide training for unemployed youth and women in nearby slum areas. The committee will also consider the allotment of land for a bus depot at Midhani and an extension of the lease for two years of the Buddha Bhavan premises to the Telangana Special Protection Force (TGSPF).
