State, Centre Must Work in Tandem for Flood Relief: Etala

Warangal: The damage by flood would be more devastating and it is time for all the parties to put up coordinated efforts to help people by compensating for the loss they faced, said the BJP leader and MP Etala Rajendar speaking in a press meet held in Mahbubabad district on Friday.

The MP, along with former MP Prof. Sitaram Naik, former MLA Dharma Reddy and Dr. Kali Prasad, inspected the flood-affected areas in Mahbubabad district. Speaking on the occasion, Rajendar said standing crops were damaged badly, people lost all of their belongings with many villages submerged in the floodwater, they even lost the vehicles which washed away in the water and several lake bunds were breached causing a huge loss to the fishermen community.

“The state government did not estimate the loss that occurred due to floods, it did not count the houses that were damaged, did not count how many cattle died and how much loss occurred to the farmers with the damage of the crops. The government announced compensation but did not sanction even a single rupee to date,” said the MP criticising the state government.

He said the state government announced that it has Rs 1,360 crore funds of national disaster relief fund (NDRF) but does not tell what happened to that amount. “The Central government cannot sanction the funds without the state government submitting a comprehensive report on flood damage. The report will be followed up by a visit of a central team to estimate the loss and then funds will be sanctioned,” he explained.

Etala said the BJP MPs have already appealed to the central home ministry to sanction the interim relief to the state government so that it could help flood victims. Instead of criticising each other, the state and central governments must coordinate to help the flood victims, he added.

Earlier in the morning, BJP MP Etala Rajendar, accompanied by other leaders, visited the flood-affected areas in Mulugu district and also inspected the damage that occurred in the Thadvai and Medaram forest region, where more than 70,000 trees have fallen due to heavy rains and gusty winds.
