Warangal: A stray dog on Tuesday mauled a 42-day-old baby to death. The incident occurred at Madipally village in Thorrur mandal of Mahbubabad district on Tuesday.
According to police, Dharshanam Venkanna along with his wife Renuka and their baby boy visited his grandmother’s house at Madipally two days back. Renuka, after feeding the baby, made him sleep in the front yard of the house and went inside for a wash. A stray dog appeared on the scene and started attacking the child.
On hearing the baby’s crimes, Renuka came out and saw the dog attacking the baby. With the help of locals who had gathered at the spot, she drove the dog away. However, with the dog bit the baby on the head, ears and neck, resulting in severe injuries and loss of blood.
The child’s parents shifted him to a primary health centre at Thorrur. As the condition of the child became worse, they shifted him to Mahatma Gandhi Memorial (MGM) Hospital where the child died during treatment.
Meanwhile, villagers alleged that stray dogs created panic among people by not only attacking them but also their cattle and it is becoming difficult for them to protect themselves and their cattle from stray dogs.
They urged civic officials to take necessary measures to curb the stray dog menace.
