Street Food Stall Workers Stage Protest At Madhapur

Hyderabad: Street food stall workers in Madhapur staged a protest on Thursday after their sheds were demolished and the authorities began fencing the area.

Scores of owners and workers started a protest urging the government not to let the traffic police and the GHMC complete the fencing work and allow food stall workers operate in the area.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Gangaram Yadav, a food vendor and Street Food Union President, said, “They demolished our stalls on September 24. We approached our local MLA, who asked the officials to let them work. Yesterday (Wednesday), GHMC officials came in and began fencing up the area.”

“When asked why, they behaved rudely with us. We have a stay in the Telangana High Court, and the next hearing is on November 13. But they did not listen. I hope the government reinstates our stalls and lets us work and feed our families”, he said.

He further said, “When Kumari Aunty runs her stall on the main road with all her rush, the police don't have any problem. But when we’re running our stalls in a lane without disturbing anyone, it is a problem for them.”

Another protestor, Ranveer Thakur, said, “If we can’t work here, we have nowhere to go. We request the government to allow us to work here.”
