You could lose your license for wrong side driving

Hyderabad: In an effort to reduce road accidents and fatalities caused by wrong-side driving and speeding, the traffic police will implement new measures. Under the new rules, anyone caught driving on the wrong side will have their driving license canceled.

A senior official stated that these recommendations have been sent to the transport department and will soon be enforced within Greater Hyderabad. Currently, only drivers caught under the influence of alcohol face license cancellation.
For those caught driving under the influence of alcohol, the details of their behavior and any related accidents are recorded in charge sheets. Courts typically impose fines ranging from Rs. 2,000 to Rs. 10,000 and may suspend licenses for 3 to 6 months.
To enhance pedestrian safety, foot overbridges will be constructed on national highways, as pedestrians are particularly vulnerable to accidents.
Additionally, 130 accident-prone spots have been identified under the Rachakonda Police Commissionerate. Plans are on to address these include increasing the height of road dividers and installing street lights. Discussions about repairs and maintenance are ongoing with the GHMC, R&B, and other relevant departments.
The main causes of accidents have been identified as follows:
Drivers operating for 15–18 hours continuously on national highways.
Non-compliance with lane discipline and attempts to overtake other vehicles.
Fatigue and lack of proper sleep, often exacerbated by drunken driving.
Improper parking of vehicles in the middle of the road instead of designated spaces on highways.
Pedestrians crossing roads on national highways without proper lighting.
