Student injured in another snake bite incident at Peddapur Gurukul
Hyderabad: In yet another incident, a student, Yashwant of Peddapur Gurukul educational institute in Jagtial district, suffered a snake bite on Thursday.
This incident took place a day after a student, Akhil, suffered snake bite on the premises on Wednesday. So far, four snake bite incidents have occurred at the institute since July 2024.
Akhil is undergoing treatment in Keshav hospital, while Yashwant is admitted to Newlife hospital in the district. However, the condition of the two students is stable, according to doctors. District Collector B Satya Prasad visited the institute and enquired about the incident.
Ironically, the district administration placed the institute principal, Madhavi Latha, under suspension instead of taking steps to prevent snake bite incidents, which are taking place from July 2024. As the institute was surrounded by agricultural fields, snakes continued to enter the premises leaving the students and staff in a panic situation.
Villagers said the district administration must be blamed for the series of snake bite incidents at Peddapur institute. “How is a principal responsible for a snake bike incident when proper preventive measures are not in place?” they asked.
At least repellents must have been placed at the institute to prevent the entry of snakes. “Putting the blame on the principal and suspending her is not a permanent solution. It will only add to the ongoing woes. The administration should first identify a solution for the snake problems in the interest of students,” they said.
In the wake of two snake bite incidents consecutively on Wednesday and Thursday, the administration must focus on finding a permanent solution to the problem, the villagers said. In July and August, two students lost their lives in snake bite incidents.
