I Believe in Giving Back to Society, says Sudha Reddy

A few minutes into the conversation, it became evident that it is her resolve to give back to the society which drove her to plan this monumental event. “After my family, I consider the people my extended family,” says Sudha. Even though the Pink Power Run is an important milestone in her journey, it is public knowledge that Sudha has been relentlessly working towards women's empowerment, child education and health through her Foundation

Hyderabad: The Sudha Reddy Foundation and Megha Engineering and Infrastructure Limited (MEIL), is gearing up to organise The Pink Power Run on September 29 to raise awareness about breast cancer. Deccan Chronicle caught up with the brain behind the idea—Sudha Reddy, entrepreneur and philanthropist to learn about the inspiration behind the event.

A few minutes into the conversation, it became evident that it is her resolve to give back to the society which drove her to plan this monumental event. “After my family, I consider the people my extended family,” says Sudha. Even though the Pink Power Run is an important milestone in her journey, it is public knowledge that Sudha has been relentlessly working towards women's empowerment, child education and health through her Foundation.

Commenting on the steep rise in breast cancer cases in India, Sudha says that it is the lack of awareness and support which has led to this situation in the country. “Awareness is key and it is high time we educate people, especially in rural areas about the need for screening and early detection,” she stressed.

Her target group of participants for the event transcends urban regions as she wants more rural women, who often lack access to healthcare and information to get involved. “I want to see rural women running in sarees, winning medals and taking charge of their health,” she says, adding that transport arrangements will be taken care of by her foundation to bring rural participants to the city. They will also provide changing rooms, warm-up sessions and guidance.

“The Pink Power Run is eyeing a Guinness World Record for being the largest marathon in South India. Besides creating awareness, the event will also showcase Hyderabad’s potential as a hub for international events,” she beams.

Emphasising on the need for women to take their health seriously, Sudha shares how even the slightest upset in a woman’s health could disturb the whole family routine. “Women are the backbone of society. If a woman is unhealthy, the entire family suffers.

”The entrepreneur gives simple yet powerful advice to women. She says, “Every woman must dedicate at least 15 minutes every day to self care and exercise. Give time to yourself. Prioritise your health and don't hesitate to seek help.”

The UNICEF International Council member urged everyone to join the Pink Power Run. “Every citizen has a responsibility to help each other and support each other. Come, run with us. Let's create awareness, promote women's health, and make a difference,” she signs off.
