Sultan Bazaar Police Arrest Gang Planning Jewellery Heists in Hyderabad
Hyderabad: Five women members of an attention diversion gang were arrested by the Sultan Bazaar crime team on Tuesday. Police said they had arrived in the city five days ago and were planning to rob jewellery shops, and outlets in malls. The gang, said to be from Madhya Pradesh, had settled in Stuartpuram in Andhra Pradesh.
Their presence came to light when the gang stole the belongings of a customer at an outlet. According to a complaint lodged with the police, the wallet and luggage contained Rs 16,000 cash, a US green card and driving licence, a credit card and other documents.
The Sultan Bazaar crime team booked a case (210/2024) under the BNS and a rime team led by detective inspector M. Madhu Kumar, and sub-inspector Naresh analysed more than 200 CCTV cameras on the from Sultan Bazaar to Secunderabad and identified the gang members and arrested them.
The accused were identified as Sabana Singh, Kunti Bai, Rehana, Rino Bai and Mandakini Sisodiya, originally from Madhya Pradesh and currently residing in Stuartpuram.
Police were able to recover Rs 2,000 cash as the gang had spent the rest of the money. The gang members disclosed that they had come with imitation jewellery of latest designs with an intention to divert the attention of jewellers and steal ornaments.
Police also seized the imitation gold ornaments.
East zone DCP B. Bala Swamy said they had inquired with their counterparts in Rajgarh in Madhya Pradesh, who informed them that the gang was wanted in many cases.
City police commissioner Kothakota Sreenivasa Reddy appreciated the work done by the Sultan Bazaar police, a statement said.
