Power Demand Likely to Cross 17,500 Mw This Summer, Says Energy Secretary

Telangana's peak demand crosses 7,500 MW: Transco

Hyderabad: Peak power demand in Telangana during the summer is expected to cross 17,500 megawatts (MW) in view of increasing power demand during the ongoing Rabi and household demand, said Sandeep Kumar Sultania, principal secretary, energy.

During a review meeting with engineers of TG Northern Power Distribution Company Limited, Sultania expressed satisfaction over the supply position and appreciated the power sector employees for their concerted efforts to provide quality, reliable and uninterrupted power supply, despite demand touching 16,601 MW and crossing the previous peaks on February 26.

In order to save standing crops, Sultania asked the emergency response teams (ERT) to deploy vehicles for immediate rectification and replacement of troublesome distribution transformers.

He asked the officials to spread awareness among public about 1912 toll-free for the redressal of their grievances. “The required ‘line clears’ on equipment shall be availed in advance so as to complete maintenance works in an optimum time,” he said.

Northern discom CMD K. Varun Reddy said that as part of reducing overload, the works of new 33 sub-stations, 83 feeders of 33 KV capacity, 341 feeders of 11 KV capacity and 98 interlinking lines of 33 KV to provide alternative power supply have been completed. Out of 105 overloaded power transformers, the work of 99 power transformers have already been completed.

Out of 4,850 overloaded distribution transformers, he said the works of 4,530 transformers have been completed and the remaining works will be completed by March 10. He said that the field engineers are ready to meet the expected peak load demand this summer and resolve any technical issues.

D. Krishna Bhaskar, chairman and managing director of TG Transco, said the augmentation works of 16 power transformers have been completed and the balance works in the NPDCL area will be completed before March 10.
