Sumathi’s Midnight Undercover Operation Exposes Women’s Safety Gaps in Dilsukhnagar
Commissioner Sumathi made it clear that any form of harassment against women will invite strict and immediate action.

HYDERABAD: n a shocking incident that underscores concerns over women’s safety and late-night nuisance in public spaces, Malkajgiri Police Commissioner B. Sumathi allegedly faced harassment from a group of miscreants while conducting an undercover inspection at Dilsukhnagar bus stand.
Soon after assuming charge, the IPS officer began assessing ground-level conditions at vulnerable locations. As part of this exercise, she visited the busy bus station around midnight in plainclothes, without any visible police security. A group of youths allegedly surrounded her, unaware of her identity, and began making obscene remarks and inappropriate propositions. The men reportedly asked vulgar questions and attempted to harass her, assuming she was an ordinary woman waiting at the bus stand.
During the inspection, the officer is said to have observed the absence of any visible police presence or patrolling vehicle at the location for nearly three hours. She also noted that several persons at the bus stand, including students and job seekers, appeared to be under the influence of alcohol and ganja.
The situation reportedly changed only when a beat constable arrived in the early hours. Her identity as the Police Commissioner was revealed after local police personnel reached the spot and greeted her. Following the incident, police detained around 40 persons from the area. Officials said they were counselled on substance abuse, indecent behaviour, and misconduct in public places, and were issued stern warnings against harassment and nuisance at public transport hubs.
However, a source questioned the official version, stating that no counselling took place at the concerned offices and raising doubts over whether the reported inspection was conducted as claimed.
