Sunkishala project: Bhatti flays KTR for making remarks against Congress Govt.

HYDERABAD, Khammam: Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka on Friday declared that the government would order an inquiry into the quality of the projects taken up on the Krishna river by the previous BRS government, amidst a political battle that has set off between the BRS and the Congress over the Sunkishala disaster.

Bhatti Vikramarka’s announcement came in the wake of comments from BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao on the collapse of retaining wall of Sunkishala project, and advised Rama Rao to apologise to the people for the sorry state of irrigation projects that is a “result of corruption committed by the earlier BRS government in awarding the works to a company.”

The Deputy Chief Minister said Rama Rao’s attack on the Congress government was an “attempt to misguide people.” Expressing serious doubts over the quality of the project’s execution and construction, Bhatti Vikramarka said, “The state government would order an inquiry on the quality of the projects and works taken up on Krishna river between 2014 to 2023.”

Earlier in the day, Rama Rao said the Congress government was responsible for what happened at Sunkishala as it happened under its watch, and alleged that the government was in the dark on what happened for several days.

“If the government was not in the dark, then why did it not react during the Assembly session about the incident,” Rama Rao asked.

He further said that the current government was rushing through the works and claimed that he spoke with some senior HMWS&SB officials who informed him that this was indeed the case. “Even when officials advised against fixing the gates, the work was pressed on,” Rama Rao said.

The Deputy Chief Minister reminded Rama Rao that Kaleshwaram and Sunkishala projects were taken up by the then BRS government. “The shoddy work at Sunkishala projects got exposed after the collapse of the retaining wall,” Bhatti said and asked Rama Rao to say whether this work was not done when the BRS was in power.

Bhatti Vikramarka also reminded that the BRS government did not pay heed to the objections from the Congress on the location for the construction of Medigadda, Sundilla and Annaram barrages. “Former chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao in his arrogance did not allow engineers to do their job and forced them to implement his decisions and designs. The Congress government is determined to expose the corruption and poor quality works of the projects taken up by the earlier BRS government. So there is no need to suppress the Sunkishala incident,” Bhatti declared.
