Supreme Court refuses to stay Group-1 Mains Exam
HYDERABAD: The Supreme Court refused to stay the Telangana State Public Service Commission (TGSPSC) Group-1 Mains exam, which began on Monday. A three-judge bench, headed by the Chief Justice of India D.Y. Chandrachud, observed that it could not interfere at this stage as students had already reached the examination halls.
“Disrupting the exam process at the last minute would harm the morale of the job seekers,” the apex court observed. Further, it stated that the Telangana High Court has specified in the interim orders that any selection made for Group-1 services shall be in accordance with the final outcome of the proceedings… “In these circumstances, we could not interfere,” the bench said.
Many aspirants had approached the Supreme Court, seeking postponement of the exams due to concerns over GO 29, claiming that it would be a disadvantage to candidates in the reserved category.
Senior counsel Kapil Sibal, appearing for a petitioner seeking interim stay, explained that several aspirants would lose out their chance if the examinations continued as scheduled.
However, the Chief Justice of India observed that at this last moment, courts cannot interfere and if any interim orders would be issued then that would affect thousands of aspirants, who had the examination centre.
