Task Force Finds Expired Food Products at Rangareddy Bakery
Hyderabad:Expired food products worth Rs 14 lakh found at Heemankshi Bakers Pvt. Ltd, located in Mekaguda of Rangareddy district, on Thursday. The state level task force teams during an inspection found food articles dumped on floor in a haphazard manner.
The officers observed insect infestation on several packed food articles in the storage. Around 875 kg of unlabelled cocoa powder and about 165 kg of liquid GMS (Glycerol Mono Stearate) was also seized.
Food articles worth `14,29,600 were found to be expired, and seized. This included articles like malto dextrin (30 MT), cake gel (170 Kg), hydrogenated vegetable fat (360 Kg), milk powder (375 Kg), topiaco starch (25 Kg) and modified starch (625 kg), some of which had expiry dates as old as February 2022.
The officials also saw creams used in manufacturing process being stored in plastic containers in highly unhygienic condition. Several essences and creams found in various plastic boxes were without any 'use by' dates.
The production unit was not equipped with drains and was littered with food waste at several places. Pan masala spit stains were also observed in the unit. Moreover, food handlers were not equipped with aprons, gloves, shoe covers and other protective gear.
