Teachers’ bodies want DEO suspended

Karimnagar: Members of the Democratic Teachers Federation (DTF), along with representatives from the Telangana Progressive Teachers Federation (TPTF), staged a dharna on Wednesday in front of the collectorate in Karimnagar, demanding the suspension of District Educational Officer (DEO) Ch. V.S. Janardhan Rao, alleging misuse of power and arrogant behaviour towards teachers.

DTF state general secretary T. Linga Reddy accused the DEO of committing several irregularities in the implementation of GO number 317, causing significant issues for teachers.
According to Linga Reddy, the DEO created a separate format with 38 columns and pressured school principals to complete it immediately after the morning prayer and send it to him, wasting valuable teaching time early in the school day.
He further alleged that, during school inspections, the DEO visits schools late in the day and keeps all staff, including women teachers, waiting until 6.30 pm. Instead of focusing on academic matters, he raises unrelated topics, which Reddy claimed mentally exhaust teachers.
He demanded that higher authorities conduct a thorough investigation into the DEO’s alleged irregularities and suspend him from his position.
In response, the DEO issued a statement refuting the allegations by the teachers' unions, asserting that most of their demands had already been addressed. He explained that the format was created following higher authorities' instructions to gather comprehensive details about schools, students, and educational standards, and did not include any irrelevant information.
He added that he is always available to teachers during office hours at the DEO office and promptly addresses any grievances brought to his attention.
