Teachers MLC polls: Silence period from 4 pm today

Nalgonda: The district collector and returning officer for the Warangal-Khammam-Nalgonda Teachers’ MLC elections, Ila Tripathi, announced on Monday that election campaigns by contesting candidates and party leaders must cease after 4 pm on February 25. She said that a silence period would be observed beginning 48 hours prior to polling, which is scheduled for February 27.

Additionally, Tripathi emphasised that there would be a ban on sending bulk SMS messages to voters, warning that any violation of this rule would result in action under the Representation of the People Act, 1951, and the Elections Rules, 1961. She also informed that liquor shops would be closed from 4 pm on February 25 until 4 pm on February 26, with the exception of those in Nalgonda municipality, where shops would remain open until the vote counting on March 3 due to the counting centre's location in town.

The elections will be conducted across 200 polling stations in the Warangal, Khammam, and Nalgonda districts, with a total of 25,797 electors. Following the polling, ballot boxes will be transported to the counting center located at the Warehouse Corporation’s godown in Arjalabavi on the outskirts of Nalgonda. Tripathi also mentioned that Section 144 would be enforced in all three districts on the day of polling.
