Speaking as the chief guest at the Fifth Edition of the three-day Electric Expo, organised by Secunderabad Electric Traders Association (SETA) held at Hitex, the minister stressed the importance of making new technologies accessible to all citizens, ensuring that the benefits of innovation are shared widely. "If we do not democratise technology, it loses relevance. The government must ensure that new inventions are democratised," he said.
During his address, Babu expressed surprise at learning that the wire and cable industry in India is valued at $1.093 billion. He said that this figure was unexpectedly high and reflected the industry’s vibrancy, further bolstered by a 14.5 per cent growth rate. He emphasised the critical role wiring and cabling play in construction, stating, "Without wiring and cable, construction cannot take place."
The minister was particularly impressed by the green cable and wiring technology showcased at the Expo, which is designed to reduce power consumption by 20 per cent compared to conventional methods. He also assured the industry that the government of Telangana would support and incentivise the adoption of cutting-edge technologies aimed at reducing power consumption.
Addressing concerns about balancing welfare and development, Sridhar Babu affirmed the government's dual commitment to both. He also highlighted the state's infrastructural achievements, including the Outer Ring Road (ORR), Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, Metro Rail, and industrial spaces, which provide ample opportunities for cabling and wiring units to flourish in Telangana. He encouraged industry players to collaborate with the state government for mutual growth.
The minister also responded positively to C. Shekar Reddy, national vice-chairman of CII IGBC's suggestion of organising a 'Make in Telangana' exhibition. He expressed the government's readiness to support this initiative, ensuring that more Telangana-based companies participate in such events, showcasing the state's manufacturing prowess.
