Telangana: 16 Gates of Nagarjunasagar Lifted

Nalgonda: Sixteen crest gates of the Nagarjunasagar Project (NSP) were lifted on Monday, releasing 1.63 lakh cusecs of water downstream, as the dam began filling up.

The inflow to the project was recorded at 3.16 lakh cusecs at 8 pm. Initially, irrigation officials lifted six gates at 11 am. As the inflow remained constant, another 10 gates were lifted to release more water.

Additionally, 8,452 cusecs of water were released to the Nagarjunasagar Right Canal and 4,746 cusecs to the Left Canal. The water release to the A. Madhava Reddy project (AMRP) canal was increased to 1,800 cusecs, and to the low-level canal to 600 cusecs due to the heavy inflow.

Water stands at 584.4 feet at Nagarjunasagar, compared to the full tank level (FTL) of 590 feet. It holds 295 tmc ft of water against its capacity of 312 tmc ft.

District collector C. Narayana Reddy stated that irrigation facilities would be provided to the area for two crop seasons this year. Additionally, all irrigation tanks in the district will be filled through the AMRP canal and the low-level canal. Based on the inflow to the project, a decision will be made regarding the release of water through the crest gates, he added.
