Telangana ACB Raids R&B Chief Engineer’s Properties in DA Case

The searches might continue till late evening to know the total disproportionate assets allegedly amassed by Naik: ACB

HYDERABAD: The anti-corruption bureau (ACB) officials conducted searches on 16 locations in the state and seized disproportionate assets worth about Rs 18 crore belonging to Mohan Naik Jarupla, engineer in chief, roads & buildings, Telangana government. However, the market value of the seized property is estimated to be over Rs 200 crore.

A case of assets disproportionate to the known sources of income was registered against the accused, Mohan Naik, as he had acquired assets by indulging in corrupt practices and dubious means during his service, said ACB officials.

“ACB’s 16 teams conducted searches on the accused officer’s residence on Tuesday, in addition to 15 other places belonging to his relatives, associates, and benamidars. During the searches, several property documents were found. They include five agricultural land parcels measuring 19.38 acres valued at Rs 82,89,750. These properties were identified at Mullangi village, Dichpally mandal and Nizamabad district, while seven flats, three in Kompally and four in Gachibowli, valued at approximately Rs 7,34,73,867, were also identified,” ACB officials disclosed.

Apart from this, a triplex villa at Miyapur valued at approximately Rs 2.50 crore and a newly constructed house at Kukatpally valued at approximately Rs 62,14,000 were also seized. An advance amount of Rs 1 lakh has been paid towards the purchase of a newly constructed villa at Nizamabad, he said.

Further, ACB officials seized net cash of Rs 55 lakh bank balances amounting to approximately Rs 1.44 crore, gold ornaments weighing about 2,500 grams valued at approximately Rs 2 crore, silver ornaments weighing about 6,000 grams valued at approximately Rs 3,60,000, household articles valued at approximately Rs 1.26 crore, electronic gadgets including mobile phones and laptops valued at approximately Rs 11,25,000 and two vehicles valued at approximately Rs 25,00,000 were also seized.

The total assets are estimated at Rs 17.95 crore. Cases in offence that are punishable under section 13 (1) (b) read with 13 (2) of the prevention of corruption act, 1988 (as amended in 2018) have been booked against the accused officer.

The accused officer has been arrested and produced before the principal special judge for SPE & ACB cases at Hyderabad for judicial remand. The case is under investigation, a press release issued by ACB stated.
