Telangana Aims for 20 GW Renewable Energy by 2030

Hyderabad: Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka announced that the state government was planning to generate 20 gigaWatts (GW; each GW is 1,000 megaWatts) of renewable energy by 2030.

Taking part in the national energy conservation week celebrations, Bhatti released the energy conservation calendar prepared by the Telangana Renewable Energy Development Corporation (TGREDCO) and said the government was determined to further double the renewable energy production to 40 GW by 2035.

TGREDCO vice chairman and managing director Vavilla Anila said that the corporation was implementing energy conservation and efficiency measures in consultation with the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) as per the Energy Conservation Building Code (ECBC).

The state stood first in ECBC with 392.21 million units of energy saved in 879 commercial buildings as per the code.

Anila stated that 73 towns and all gram panchayats had been using 17.23 lakh LED streetlights to conserve energy. By distributing 32 lakh LED bulbs, 20W LED tube lights and 28W BLDC fans at affordable prices, the state has conserved 439 million units of power, she added.
