Telangana Braces for Thunderstorms over Weekend

Hyderabad: India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday warned of adverse weather conditions in Telangana for the next three days. Starting Friday night, a cold wave will likely grip isolated pockets in Adilabad and Komaram Bheem Asifabad districts, and the IMD has sounded a yellow alert.

From Saturday, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and winds gusting up to 40 kmph are expected to hit several districts, including Mulugu, Bhadradri-Kothagudem, Khammam, Nalgonda and Warangal. These conditions are forecast to continue into Sunday, covering a broader region, including Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy and Medchal-Malkajgiri districts.

The IMD has advised the public to remain vigilant. Dr K. Nagaratna, head of IMD-Hyderabad, stressed the importance of avoiding taking shelter under the trees during lightning strikes.

Impact assessments indicated possible damage to kutcha structures, water pooling on roads and traffic congestion. Municipal corporations and traffic departments are advised to issue necessary advisories for public safety. Detailed updates can be had from Mausam, Damini and Meghdoot mobile apps.
