Telangana: BRS Built Krishna Projects Are Also Faulty, Says Bhatti

Hyderabad: The collapse of a sidewall of the Sunkishala tunnel in the backwaters of the Nagarjunasagar project has exposed substandard construction during the BRS rule, said Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka.

“It is clear that not just Godavari projects at Medigadda and Sundilla of the Kaleshwaram lift irrigation scheme, the projects taken up on Krishna river during former chief minister K. Chandrashekar Rao’s tenure are also not safe,” said Bhatti after a review meeting with power officials in the GHMC limits.

Bhatt, who holds the power portfolio, said that the BRS government had launched the Sunkishala project in July 2021 and completed the sidewall of the tunnel in July 2023.

“The collapse of the sidewall had exposed that the BRS had not left safe even the projects on Krishna river. The faulty design and sub-standard construction led to the collapse of the Sunkishala project, but the BRS leaders tried to put the blame on the Congress government, stating that the irrigation officials are conducting a probe,” Bhatti said, adding that the government was determined to expose the culprits behind it.

Bhatti asked power officials to improve the quality of power supply in Hyderabad as it was fast emerging as a destination for largescale investments from multinational companies.

Bhatti asked officials to popularise the helpline number 1912, to record and address the grievances of the people. He announced that the government was preparing an action plan to take up the promotions and transfer of the employees in the power sector very soon.

He also asked the officials to ensure the builders of the big residential projects to ensure earmarking the land for erecting the power poles, laying of power lines and setting up transformers as the availability of land has become a major problem.
