Nalgonda: The Deeksha Diwas on Friday was observed by BRS functionaries across the district remembering the hunger strike by party president and former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao (KCR) in 2009 for the statehood of Telangana.
A large number of BRS members participated in the Deeksha Diwas at clock tower centre in Nalgonda and near old bus stand in Suryapet. Members of the students union BRSV also conducted a programme at Mahatma Gandhi University at Anneparthy of Narketpally mandal in Nalgonda district. The venues of the Deeksha diwas reverberated with the slogans of “Jai KCR”.
Participating in the Deeksha Diwas at Nalgonda, former minister and senior BRS leader G Jagadish Reddy said the hunger strike of KCR on November 29 in 2009 paved the way for the creation of Telangana state. The commitment shown by KCR and Telangana martyrs inspired the youth to participate in the Telangana agitation, he added.
He reminded that KCR did not accept the proposal of the UPA government for creation of Telangana without Hyderabad city. He made it clear that November 29 (Deeksha Diwas) would have importance in the history of Telangana.
Speaking at the Deeksha Diwas at Mahatma Gandhi University, BRSV state general secretary Katta Srinivasulu said students and youths responded to the call of KCR and participated in Telangana agitation.
After formation of Telangana state, the BRS government had withdrawn all cases filed by Andhra colonial rulers against the students for participating in Telangana agitation. KCR showed the agitation spirit in development of Telangana after creation of the separate state.
BRS district president R. Ravindra Kumar Naik, former Nalgonda MLA Kancherla Bhupal Reddy, the party’s town president Bhongir Devender and others participated in the programme.
Cadre in Nizamabad Mark Deeksha Diwas, MLC Kavitha Absent
NIZAMABAD: The BRS on Friday celebrated the Deeksha Diwas here, marking the fast unto death by its president K. Chandrashekar Rao.
Party activists from various Assembly constituencies also took part in the programme. Nizamabad MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha was absent.
