Telangana CM Warns BRS Leaders Over Disruptions
HYDERABAD: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has issued a stern warning to BRS leaders, cautioning them against obstructing the state government's activities without a reason. Naming BRS leaders K.T. Rama Rao and T. Harish Rao, the Chief Minister alleged that their behaviour was disruptive and called on BRS chief K. Chandrasekhar Rao to guide his family members to act responsibly.
Speaking at the event after launching the Indiramma Houses mobile app in Secretariat on Thursday, Revanth Reddy warned that the law would take its own course if such actions persist. He accused Rama Rao and Harish Rao of behaving immaturely and urged the BRS chief to instill discipline within his party.
“Development is being obstructed by childish behaviour. Chandrashekhar Rao should teach manners to Rama Rao and Harish Rao. It's not appropriate for anyone to act according to their whims,” the Chief Minister said, adding that his government remains committed to balancing development and welfare.
Revanth Reddy extended invitations to Chandrashekhar Rao, Union ministers G. Kishan Reddy and Bandi Sanjay to attend the Praja Palana Vijayotsavalu celebrations, scheduled from December 7 to 9 at Hussainsagar. Highlighting Telangana’s cultural pride, the Chief Minister announced the unveiling of the Telangana Talli statue in the Secretariat on December 9, alongside festive programmes reflecting the state’s heritage.
He urged all citizens and political leaders, including opposition parties like the AIMIM and the CPI, to participate in the celebrations. He particularly called on the BRS chief to attend the Legislative Assembly session beginning December 9, honouring the people’s mandate and contributing constructively as the Leader of the Opposition.
In a scathing critique of the previous BRS government, Revanth Reddy accused Chandrashekhar Rao of leaving the state in financial distress with a debt burden of Rs 7 lakh crore, compared to a surplus of Rs 16,000 crore when the Congress handed over the reins in 2014 to the BRS.
“We are paying Rs 6,500 crore monthly as interest on the debts incurred during Chandrashekhar Rao’s tenure. Despite the challenges, we waived Rs 21,000 crore in farm loans and created jobs,” he said, contrasting his government’s achievements within a year to the decade-long rule of the BRS.
The Chief Minister cited examples of past opposition leaders like Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy and N. Chandrababu Naidu, who constructively engaged with ruling governments when they were in opposition, and urged Chandrashekhar Rao to adopt a similar approach.
Revanth Rao appealed to Chandrashekhar Rao to move beyond political differences and collaborate on key issues, especially in coordinating efforts with Telangana’s members of Parliament to secure benefits from the central government.
“Our focus should be on the state’s progress. Leaders in Tamil Nadu unite despite differences; Telangana should follow suit,” the Chief Minister asserted.
