Telangana Congress inquiring into lapses in LS polls

There were problems from the time of selection of candidate and this was compounded by a lack of coordination among party leaders. These adversely affected the prospects of the Congress there

NIZAMABAD: The Congress high command would inquire into the defeat of Congress candidate T Jeevan Reddy in Nizamabad Parliament constituency.

Initially, the party leadership believed that the candidate would have a cakewalk in Nizamabad, a traditional stronghold for the party. Shockingly, the Congress lost major vote shares in several assembly constituencies this time.

There were problems from the time of selection of candidate and this was compounded by a lack of coordination among party leaders. These adversely affected the prospects of the Congress there.

Jeevan Reddy belongs to Jagtial district and hence the party cadre as also the general public considered him an outsider in Nizamabad district. Five assembly segments come under Nizamabad Parliament constituency.

As an individual, Jeevan Reddy put in serious efforts for his victory, but party cadres in a few assembly constituencies did not respond positively to him.

AICC in-charge for TS, Deepa Das Munshi, has been asked to verify the reasons of the defeat of Jeevan Reddy.

The party leadership will ask for reports from the Nizamabad DCC and other senior leaders. TPCC treasurer, Bodhan MLA Sudarshan Reddy, concentrated on his own Bodhan assembly constituency for a majority for the Congress LS candidate there and succeeded.

But, no senior leader came to help Jeevan Reddy in the campaign process in Nizamabad. Hence, the Congress suffered a humiliating defeat.

Particularly in Nizamabad rural and Balkonda assembly constituencies, yjr Congress failed to garner significant votes. A few senior leaders explained the reasons for the candidate’s defeat to the AICC emissary, Karnataka minister Bosu Raju.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, a senior party leader said the Congress leadership extended all help to the assembly constituency level leaders for the victory of the MP candidate. Lack of coordination among leaders and adamant attitude of a few senior leaders adversely affected the party’s prospects in the parliament elections, he said.

The Congress party is serious about investigating the lapses in Parliament elections and the errant leaders will pay a price for their negligence, he said.
