Telangana: Congress MP Reddy slams BRS leaders over broken promises
Hyderabad: Congress Bhongir MP Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy came down heavily on BRS leaders K. Chandrashekar Rao, K.T.Rama Rao and T. Harish Rao on the issue of unfulfilled poll promises during BRS regime and for their criticism of demolitions of illegal structures being carried out by HYDRAA.
Addressing a press conference at Gandhi Bhavan on Saturday, Kiran Kumar Reddy welcomed reports that appeared in the media about former chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao planning to tour districts and undertake agitation programmes against the Congress government.
He said the Congress welcomed Chandrashekar Rao’s engagement with the people, but challenged him to attend the Assembly session first and fight for the welfare of the people.
Kiran Kumar Reddy questioned the BRS chief’s commitment to addressing the problems of the people and noted that many promises made by party in the 2014 and 2018 election manifestos remained unfulfilled. He pointed out that promises such as appointing a Dalit Chief Minister, providing three acres of land to Dalits, creating jobs, and establishing multi-specialty hospitals in every district had not been implemented.
The MP called for an open discussion on the achievements and failures of the BRS government. He also stressed the need for all parties to unite against what he described as the injustices perpetrated by the BJP against Telangana.
Kiran Kumar Reddy referred to Harish Rao as the "designer of Commission Kakatiya" rather than the intended "Mission Kakatiya," accusing him of misappropriating funds. He claimed that Rs 10,000 crore had been allocated for various projects under the special development fund during the BRS regime by taking commissions from contractors. For that reason the Congress government had cancelled those allocations.
The Congress MP accused Rama Rao of hypocrisy, pointing out that as municipal minister he was involved in leasing out illegal structures while he was now tweeting against the Congress government’s actions.
Kiran Kumar Reddy remarked that the Opposition is doing nothing except using social media platforms like X to criticise Congress government.
