Warangal:
Mahbubabad Congress MP Porika Balram Naik called on the Centre to include the Gor-Boli language in the 8th Schedule of the Constitution, highlighting its significance as one of the country's ancient languages and its widespread use among 12 crore Banjaras across India.

Speaking in Parliament on Thursday, Naik emphasised that recognising Gor-Boli was crucial for preserving the self-respect of the Banjara community.
Naik pointed out that the Banjara community, which includes tribes such as Gor, Gour Banjara, Laman, and Lambadi, plays a vital role in India's cultural diversity. Despite the lack of a written script, Gor-Boli remains the primary language of communication among these tribes.

He urged the Union home minister to take immediate steps to preserve the language and the rich traditions, culture, and history of the Banjara people by granting Gor-Boli official status, a demand that has persisted since independence.
