Telangana: Energy Department to Install 50,000 Solar Pump Sets for Tribal Beneficiaries

Hyderabad: The energy department has decided to go ahead with installing 50,000 solar pump sets for tribal beneficiaries. In total, the government has estimated the demand for 2.5 lakh solar pump sets, based on cultivable land of tribals under the Recognition of Forest Rights Act and the Forest Conservation Act.
In a high-level meeting at the Secretariat on Tuesday, principal secretary, energy, Sandeep Kumar Sultania focused on the feasibility of providing the solar pump sets and its phase-wise implementation.
This programme aims to significantly enhance agricultural productivity, empower tribal communities and promote sustainable energy practices.
Sandeep Kumar said a request has been made to the Union ministry of new and renewable energy for the sanction of 1 lakh solar pump sets under the PM-KUSUM component-B scheme. The concerned officials were directed to conduct a comprehensive preliminary survey to assess actual requirements.
Later, a proposal will be submitted to the state government for budgetary approvals, ensuring effective planning and resource allocation.
The Tribal welfare, forest department and Telangana's renewable energy development (TGREDCO) will work together to streamline the implementation process.
The meeting was attended by commissioner of Tribal welfare Sharath, additional principal chief conservator of forests Sunitha M. Bhagwath, chairman and managing director of TGSPDCL Musharaff Faruqui and managing director of TGREDCO V. Anila.
